Deck sanding โ€” back to bare timber

Deck sanding takes your deck back to bare timber for even colour and a smooth, oil-ready surface. We start with coarse passes (40/60 grit) to strip old stain/paint and flatten boards, then finish at 80 grit. Edges, corners and nosings are detailed by hand for a consistent result. Most sanding jobs sit inside a full Deck Restoration so you get colour and protection with penetrating oil.

Deck Sanding FAQs

Do you sand right back to bare timber?

Yes. We take the surface back to fresh wood so the natural colour comes through and new oils bond properly.

How much timber is removed?

Very little โ€” usually around 0.5โ€“1.5 mm, just enough to strip away coatings, stains and weathered fibres while keeping your deck boards strong.

Is the surface ready for oiling straight away?

Yes. After sanding we vacuum thoroughly, so the surface is clean and ready for oil the same day (weather-permitting)
