Deck replacement — new boards, fresh start
Sometimes, before a deck can be properly restored, some or all of the decking boards need to be replaced. This may mean replacing failed sections and restoring the remainder, completely re-decking an existing structure, or even replacing and extending the deck.
We remove failed boards, inspect the subframe, and rebuild using suitable hardwoods such as Merbau or Spotted Gum, or composite decking such as ModWood or Eva-Last Pioneer. New boards are installed with appropriate spacing and fixings, then finished as required so the deck looks great and is straightforward to maintain.
If only a few boards are damaged, deck repairs may be more appropriate, either on their own or as part of a deck restoration.

Do I need to replace the whole deck?
Usually, only part of a deck needs replacing. We can quote both options – replacing the entire deck, or replacing the damaged sections and restoring the remainder. Which option makes the most sense usually comes down to the proportion of damaged decking and the condition of what remains.
Can you reuse my existing deck frame?
Most of the time, yes. If the existing joists, bearers and posts are strong and stable, we can usually reuse the subframe and replace only the decking, which can save considerably on cost. We have plenty of experience assessing which deck frames are worth keeping and when structural repairs or replacement are the better option.
How much does deck replacement cost?
Deck replacement generally starts from around $250/m² for Merbau decking, including stainless steel fixings and finishing the new timber with a suitable stain or oil. Pricing can move towards $400/m² or more where the subframe also requires replacement, or where more expensive hardwoods or composite decking are selected.
